David Patterson

David Patterson to let him know she might be interested in being appointed to fill Hillary Clinton's seat. It was so refreshing to watch new Governor David Patterson's first address live on CNN's Internet streaming video this afternoon. When he boldly announced, "Let me re-introduce myself - my name is David Patterson and I am the Governor of New York!"., it was with a sense of pride and excitement - shared by all in attendace and viewing from afar.

He is also co-author of five books, including two with John Hennessy, president of Stanford University. His teaching has been honored with several awards throughout the years. Both campaigned for Clinton in the presidential race, with Paterson considered a top contender to take her Senate seat should she win the White House. Paterson is now only the fourth black governor in American history and the first legally blind state leader. As president of Stanford University, he has made huge contributions to education, and the creation of a student body that has gone on to found many of Silicon Valley’s largest companies. And his work has helped generate huge licensing revenue for the university.

As ACM President, Patterson created several major initiatives to advance computing as a science and a profession. They included advocating more research funding for computing and information technology; a study of the impact of globalization and offshoring on software; and improving the quality of computer science education.
